CHICAGO - Illinois Comptroller and Democratic candidate for Governor Dan Hynes today issued the following statement on the eighth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks:
“On this most somber anniversary, and with our nation in the midst of challenges far apart from the shock and devastation of that day, let us pause to remember the victims of the senseless attacks of September 11, 2001, when nearly 3,000 of our fellow citizens were murdered for the simple act of going about their day. Among them were hundreds of fire fighters and law enforcement officers, whose bravery and sacrifice that day is reflected countless times every day by first responders in communities across our state and nation.
Further, let us strive to relocate the sense of national pride and unity born out of that awful day as we confront new challenges.
Lastly, let us also keep in our thoughts and prayers the families of 9/11 victims, for whom I would imagine eight years has brought time but not nearly enough comfort.”
