QUINCY, ILL. (AP) -- Gene Scholes makes his living in pest control around Quincy, but even he's getting bugged by ladybugs.

Around his turf and much of the country, legions of Asian lady beetles are making their seasonal appearance, exploiting gaps in door and window seals on homes to cozy up inside to hibernate.

At Scholes' home near Hannibal, Mo., he says thousands of the bugs have swarmed in recent days, with dozens of them getting inside.

He's removed them with a vacuum cleaner.

Bug experts say the intensity of the swarms can vary widely.

But they say there's no cause for concern among humans.

The bugs can occasionally bite, but they're not venomous.

Experts suggest that homeowners seal around their windows and doors, as well as areas where pipes enter the home.
