CHICAGO (AP) - Unemployment rates in every metropolitan area in Illinois rose in September, continuing a trend that's dragged on for nearly 2 1/2 years.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security on Thursday released figures that show the unemployment rate climbed in all 12 regions.

That comes as the statewide not-seasonally adjusted jobless rate climbed in September to 10.2 percent.

The U.S. rate was 9.5 percent.

Rockford had the greatest increase, rising from 8.9 percent in September of last year to 15.2 percent this year.

The Chicago-Naperville-Joliet metro area reported the largest percentage decrease in jobs - 4.9 percent - with a loss of 188,200 positions.

State officials say September marked the 28th straight month in which the unemployment rate was higher than it was the same month of the previous year.
