Quincy mayor says he is being treated for prostate cancer

QUINCY, ILL -- The Mayor of Quincy says he is being treated for prostate cancer.
John Spring made that announcement this morning.
Spring says he went to the doctor for a regular checkup before Christmas and tests showed an elevated PSA level.
After blood work was taken, Spring found out that his prostate specific antigen or PSA level in his blood was high.
After further test the doctor diagnosed him the prostate cancer.
Spring encourages folks to get the blood work done and concact your doctor and make an appointment.
Spring started some early treatment last Thursday but will eventually under go eight and a half weeks of radiation.
Spring says. "The treatment I am taking will not hinder my ability at all to conduct my duties as mayor here in the community. Because of the early detection because of the treatment that I have selected, I expect a full recovery."
The radiation will only take about an hour a day then we will head back to work.
Spring will have a surgical procedure done this week, implanting coils to make the radiation more effective.
Spring's treatments will take place at Blessing Cancer center and doctors tell Spring that is prognosis is good.
