WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) -- Sen. Dick Durbin has sharply restricted the duties of longtime aide Michael Daly after an internally conducted sexual harassment investigation prompted by the published essays of Kathleen Rooney, a young part-time aide who worked in his Chicago office.
Daly once served as Durbin's Illinois chief of staff.
Durbin spokesman Joe Shoemaker said Thursday that although though no evidence of sexual harassment was found, Durbin has determined that Daly, a close aide for a quarter-century, will no longer have supervisory responsibilities.
Meanwhile, Durbin fired Rooney, who was found to have violated Senate ethics rules in not seeking a waiver to allow her to write the book and was taking advantage of her Senate position for personal gain, including a $4,000 book advance.
