Only E-85 pump in county sells E-85 for 85 cents per gallon
CARTHAGE, ILL. -- Cars were lining up for cheap gas in Hancock County Wednesday, March 17th.
The Hancock County Farm Bureau sponsored an E-85 promotion that lasted two hours.
E-85 fuel was being sold for just 85 cents to promote the fuel type.
There is only one pump in Hancock County that offers E-85 fuel.
We spoke with Hancock County Farm Bureau President Joe Zumwalt.
He says even though many ethanol plants are struggling, ethanol is still a viable fuel method and still is competitive with other forms of fuel.
"Some people say the electric of the hydrogen cars are going to replace it, but I think there's always going to be a place for E-85 or for a small percentage of ethanol to be in our gas, because look at all the vehicles out here running on gas. Yeah that battery powered vehicle is going to have its place, but I think it's going to be a long time before we see this option go out the window," said Zumwalt.
The promotion was held at Law's Full Service Gas Station on North Madison in Carthage.
A total of 260 gallons of E-85 fuel was pumped to 24 vehicles, there was a ten gallon limit per vehicle.
The promotion is being called a great success.
