Students go "Hour without power"
Some Payson Seymour Junior High School students will do their part to help the planet this weekend.
As part of their Earth Hour Project, students will have an hour without power.
It is set to begin Saturday night (3/27) at about 8:30 p.m.
It begins with a lock-in at the school starting at 6:00 p.m. and then at about 8:30 p.m., the electricity will be turned off.
Kids will then have to help supply power to light the multi purpose room by hand cranking a device to make electricity.
In an age where kids are surrounded by electronics, you may wonder why kids would want to do this.
"It shows we know there actually is a problem. The whole country is going to have to be involved. We have a lot of power as students. We need to show we can do our part," says 8th grader Conner Lentz.
Admission to the event is $2 with two cans of food or $3 without any canned food donation.
The canned food items will be donated to a local food bank, while the monetary donations will help pay for progams at the school.
This is the second year for the event.
