QUINCY, ILL. -- An Illinois State Senator wants to be the state's next Treasurer.

Dan Rutherford is a Republican from the Pontiac area.

He says the state is in a financial mess, and the people of Illinois need someone to stand up for them.

Rutherford has been in the House of Representatives and Senate for almost 18 years.

He's also been in the private sector as a business man for 25 years.

"I don't have to have an elected position to have a job. I think that we in government and we in Illinois are better served with public servants who don't just do this as a career to keep going on to have an income," says Rutherford.
