HANNIBAL, MO. -- There have been some signs that the nation's economy is turning around, but that doesn't mean it's been any easier for people to find jobs.

Judging by the turnout at a career fair in Hannibal Tuesday, April 20th, that holds true here in the Tri-States.

It was a full house at the Hannibal National Guard Armory for the career fair.

Employers lined the armory and visited with hundreds of job seekers.

We spoke with one person whose been out of work since October of 2008.

We asked her what advice she has to others in her position.

"Don't give up. If you give up, nothing is going to happen, you just have to keep going and hopefully something will turn up somewhere, you just have to keep trying," said Helen Birkhardt.

Tuesday's career fair was hosted by the Missouri Career Center.

We asked Lead Workforce Specialist Kim Cull to give job seekers a few tips.

She said the biggest thing people need to remember, is to make a great first impression.

"Make sure you've got a good resume, if you're filling out an application make sure you fill it out completely, don't leave any open blanks and make sure it's legible. Print on the application, put your best work on there, make sure you're putting a good impression out there because that's the first thing that they're going to see," said Cull.

Cull says make sure you put all your accomplishments and work experience on your resume.

And be persistent.

Finally, follow up after your interview by sending a note.
