QUINCY, ILL. -- John Wood Community College will become the 21st college in Illinois to close it's doors on Friday's during the summer.

Discussion on the issue went late into the night Wednesday before the board of trustees took the final vote.

The school will close for 9 consecutive fridays this summer starting June 11th through August 6th.

This move is expected to save the school between 15 and 20 thousand dollars according to school president Dr. Thomas Klincar

He says, "It's a win for tax payers who help fund our facilities, a win for our community cause we're pumping more than almost 200 people into community service. And we've cut back on the benefits. Our employees  voluntarily given up  this to enable this decision."

Dr. Klincar  also says that the school has to be ready in case the funding from the state falls even further behind.

He says,"We are receiving most of our funding. It's coming late like everyone else. But the promise is there. Now if that promise isn't kept, we're doing everything we can to make sure this institution remains on solid financial footing."

Dr. Klincar says that school will evaluate the change over the summer before deciding whether or not to continue it in the future.
