CHICAGO (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn is set to sign education legislation in Chicago.
The signing is scheduled for Sunday morning.
The Democratic governor has championed education in his budget proposals.
He said at an event last week that the key to passing a new state budget before the end of May is a plan that "invests properly in education."
He said the Legislature wouldn't be able to adjourn until that goal is accomplished.
Legislative leaders sent lawmakers home last week without approving a budget.
They promised to call them back into session when they figure out how to proceed.
After May 31, passing a budget would require a super-majority, meaning the Democratic majority would need some Republican votes to take action.
The current budget expires on June 30.
