MACOMB, ILL. -- Planning for the 2010 Macomb Senior High School Marching Bomber Band is currently underway!

This year’s show will be based on classical Italian themes. The music, marching drill and flag choreography are being custom arranged for the band.

The students have been hard at work readying themselves for this fall’s marching band season. For the past few weeks potential percussionists have been attending drum camp to hone their skills and audition for a spot on the Macomb high school drum line. The same process is also underway for students auditioning for marching flags.

This past week resolved the anticipation over who would be this year’s drum majors (the conductors and leaders of the band on and off the field).

The candidates attended conducting lessons and were individually interviewed by band director Dave Wetmore.  Each hopeful auditioned in front of the band and was judged based on a number of criteria, including maintaining  a clear, steady conducting style, showing good leadership skills, and positive response from their fellow students.

We are excited to announce that this year there will be three drum majors. Returning for a second year will be senior Hope Kirwin,  accompanied by two new majors: senior Tucker Hays and junior Dominic Bear. We are very proud of these hard working kids who represent some of the best aspects of the Macomb community. Congratulations!

The Macomb Band Boosters are currently working hard raising funds to replace the deteriorating 15-year-old marching band uniforms. We are now halfway to our goal of $60,000. Please keep in mind these upcoming fundraising events:

Sports Corner @124 is hosting an operation Band Aid “Bussing for the Band” weekend Saturday, June 5th and Sunday, June 6th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day.  Band members will bus tables and help with food service during the weekend.  10% of the proceeds will go to the uniform drive.  Make sure to grab a bite and support your favorite “Band-Busser.”

Park ‘n Cruise night on the square is coming up on Friday, June 4th.  The Knights of Columbus are generously donating half of their proceeds from concession sales during Park ‘N Cruise nights to the MHS band.  Please stop by their booth and enjoy a delicious grilled sandwich during these nights.

The Band-Aid Gala is scheduled for August 14, 2010 in the Western Illinois University Grand Ballroom. This will be a dinner-dance featuring a premiere performance by the 2010 Macomb Marching Band, as well as musical sets from talented area musicians throughout the evening. The Gala will also host a large silent auction, and the winner of the Scooter Raffle will be announced. Tickets for the raffle can be bought at Pumo Insurance on the Square.
