QUINCY, ILL. -- Adams County residents will get their chance to speak out against the new ordinance to develop wind farms in the county.
Board members will hear comments for and against the proposal passed back in January allowing wind turbines to be built in the county.
The ordinance came under fire shortly after it was passed, as board members started to receive feedback from folks in the Golden area, where a 100-unit wind farm is planned.
Back in March we talked with several of those concerned residents who say the current setback of wind turbines a thousand feet from foundations of homes and businesses is too close.
They're also concerned about the noise that would come along with turbines like these and what's called a shadow flicker.
Meanwhile folks in favor of the ordinance say stricter policies could jeopardize economic development in the county by making it harder for green developers to build turbines.
We talked with County Board member John Johnson Monday.
He says the board wants to hear from both sides, in order to make the best policy for the entire county.
Johnson said, "I'm hopeful that those who are for and against or have any issues with the certain parts of the ordinance have a chance to voice it or put it in writing, video or something to get that information to us so we can have a chance to hear their story and utilize it in our analysis and we move forward."
The public hearing is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, June 8 from 6:30 to 8 in the evening at the John Wood Community College Auditorium, located at 48th and Harrison.
The county board will likely vote on the issue during its July meeting.
