CARTHAGE, ILL. -- Many believe early detection is key to beating any disease, so frequent check-ups are vital to stay healthy.

Free health screenings were available in Hancock County Wednesday, June 16th.

It was the 2010 Health Fair put on by the Hancock Countty's Families Coalition at the U of I Extension Center in Carthage.

Visitors were able to get free screenings for a number of different health issues, everything from prostate cancer and kidney disease to E-K-G's, blood pressure and anxiety.

"Well there are a lot of folks out there who may not seek a medical professional and get these screenings done. And so this is an opportunity for people to come to one location and get these screenings done to hopefully, if they find something, they'll be able to treat it right away," said Melita Finney from the Hancock County Health Department.

Finney told KHQA the most eye-opening exhibit was the Dermascan.

That shows you how much sun exposure your skin gets, some of which could be signs of skin cancer.
