Earlier today the Dollar General Foundation awarded Quincy's John Wood Community College $15,000 to enhance adult literacy programs.

You'll recall, a couple months back we announced the Kinscherff Center had $30,000 cut from their budget.

With these well needed funds, directors hope instruction time can be increased by 16 hours a week.

The John Wood Community College Kinscherff Adult Education and Learning Center works with residents who have not received high school diplomas.

Since its opening last year, 350 to 450 people enroll a year in hopes of improving their lives.

KHQA spoke with the Director of Adult and Community Education and he said, "The $15,000 will enable us to get back to a place where we can hopefully serve the students the way they need to be served. And, further education means more productivity to the community."

Jenkins also asked for all retired teachers in the area to help with the volunteer tutoring program.
