It may feel refreshing to jump in some water on a hot day, but be careful where you swim.

With flood water around the area, there could be all kinds of hidden dangers in the water.

There could be glass or aluminum cans that could cut you.

There could also be many things that you could get your foot tangled in like rope or fencing that could trap you underwater.

Despite the summer heat, it's best for the public not to come in contact with flood water. They can be contaminated with human and animal waste as well as other contaminents," says Renee Burngart with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

Flooding concerns also have environmental officials urging Missourians to be careful about the chemicals used on their lawns and crops.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources says more rainfall means fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides can wash into the local watershed.

The DNR says to keep an eye on the forecast, and if you see rain in the near future, try to wait before you spread the chemicals.
