LEWIS CO., MO. -- The Missouri DNR is closing four state swimming beaches just before the holiday weekend after finding high levels of E. coli bacteria.

One of those beaches is in the Tri-States.

The lake at Wakonda State Park in Lewis County now is closed because of E. coli.

KHQA also received an e-mail, saying several people got sick after swimming in that water earlier this week.

The grandfather of one of the children says several kids swam in the lake for about an hour on Wednesday, June 30.

No more than an hour after they left, the beach was closed, and has remained closed because of the high levels of bacteria.

Later that night, those swimmers became sick with diarrhea and fever; one also suffered from blisters.

At least one of the children is being tested for E. coli contamination.

There are no confirmed cases of E.coli in Adams County as of Friday afternoon.

Another test sample at Wakonda State Park will be taken on Monday.
