DAVENPORT, IOWA (AP) -- The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for parts of Illinois and Iowa as water from last month's heavy rainfall filtered its way into creeks, streams and rivers.
Flood warnings were posted Sunday in the Mississippi River area, including at Burlington where the river was a foot and a half above flood stage and falling.
In Quincy, Ill., the weather service reported the Mississippi River at 21.2 feet, above the flood stage of 17 feet.
The National Weather Service in Davenport said the Wapsipinicon River new DeWitt in eastern Iowa was in its major flood category.
In Illinois, flood warnings were posted for the Rock and Pecatonica rivers.
Meteorologists said many of the flood warnings should expire in the next two to three days, when most rivers drop below flood stages.
