MACOMB, ILL. -- The Go West Bus system at Western Illinois University will hit a major milestone later this week. It will break its record set two years ago of number of riders. At the end of this week 1.68 million riders will have ridden the thirteen routes this past school year. Non-university riders has grown in the last three years. In 1999, there were 10,000 non-university riders. Last year there were 220,000.
"We've designed a system, a pulse system, that allows you to get from one side of the city to the other in 30 minutes or less, depending on where you're at. In addition to that, a year ago we were able to discontinue any fares so nobody pays a fare when they actually get on the bus," said Go West coordinator Jude Kiah.
The Go West bus service runs from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 a.m. on weekends.
