Fallen soldier returns home to Illinois

SPRINGFIELD, ILL. -- Funeral services have been scheduled for a 25-year-old central Illinois soldier killed in Afghanistan.

Twenty-five-year-old Staff Sgt. Joshua D. Powell of Pleasant Plains was one of five soldiers who died in a helicopter crash Sept. 21 during combat operations in Zabul province, Afghanistan.

He was a member of the 101st Airborne Division.

Visitation will be Monday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Springfield. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Powell will be buried with full U.S. Army honors at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

He enlisted with the Illinois Army National Guard in April 2003.
