MACOMB, ILL. -- There are more than 84 miles of city streets in Macomb, less than 29 miles are in good condition.

Earlier this week Public Works Director Walter Burnett laid out a ten year street repair improvement plan for city alderman.

The current half cent sales tax provides about $900,000 a year for public infrastructure improvement.

More than half of that is dedicated to just maintaining good streets.

On the November 2nd ballot, voters will see an issue of adding another half cent to the sales tax.

If that's passed, the city will be able to repair and replace more roads

"One of the things we do know as we go forward, whether we get the half cent passed on November 2nd or whether we stay with the current half cent sales tax is that we need to emphasize maintenance more," said Burnett.

If you have any questions of what the extra half cent sales tax would go towards, you are urged to call either the Macomb public works department at 309-833-2821, the mayors office at 309-833-2558 or the city clerk at 309-833-2575.
