CANTON, MO. -- Some freshmen at Culver Stockton College have put their communities before themselves.

Studens are putting together grocery bags to be donated to the Canton Food Pantry and the Madonna House of Quincy.

Each year Culver Stockton's First Year Experience classes are given a $175 budget to help pay for a class activity of their choice.

The students in five FYE classes decided to put that money towards filling the shelves of local food pantries.

"We could've used it for basically fun days for us or whatever we wanted to do, we had our option and we all went in and voted and it was a unanimous vote in our class to use our money for this. With the economy the way it is, they haven't been getting enough items to disperse to the community," said freshman Rebecca McAfee.

Some money from the classes budget will also help mail care packages to US troops serving over seas.
