QUINCY, ILL. -- This holiday season is quickly approaching and more people are struggling to make ends meet. That's why dozens of people stopped by Tanner Hall in Quincy Sunday for the 4th annual food pantry benefit for Quincy Catholic Charities.

People either paid $5 or brought nonperishable foods to donate.

A local band also played music. The lead singer is one of the organizers.

He said last year's benefit brought in around $3,500.

This year, they're expecting even more.

"The first year we played down at the Northside and we got some groceries, we got some money and then it just kind of snowballed ever since and it's gotten bigger and bigger. We're not where we want to be by any stretch of the imagination but it's getting legs. It's growing legs, that's for sure," co-organizer Mark Kroner said.

The food that was donated will go to Quincy's Food pantry.

Catholic Charities Area Director Jackie Raleigh says the people who are using the food pantries are not who you would usually think of.

"Our pantry's been struggling the past few months. We've had record numbers in our pantry every week. Last week we had 127 families and we usually have around 100. So, it's a pretty big increase for us. These are your families your friends, your neighbors that are really needing help this time of year," Jackie Raleigh with the Christian food pantry said.

The food pantry is always accepting donations. You can drop off food to 620 Maine Street.
