Several people across the Tri-State area have a little something extra to be thankful for.

Thanks to a generous donation from a local family, gifts cards are being given out to people as they shop at Hy-Vee on Harrison.

Wednesday we got to witness the joy it brought to Beth and her family.

She had to borrow money just to get groceries for her husband and son and the donation helped her.

She had to wipe away the tears of joy when the Hy-Vee director Steve Labs handed her the gift.

"Made it more wonderful then I could imagine. I did not have money so I really needed it. It changes your perspective on life, makes you more grateful," she said to KHQA's Tegan Orpet.

The donations continued to be given out throughout the day Wednesday.
