QUINCY, ILL. -- An eight-year veteran of the Black Friday madness says she's not going through the hassle this year. Jen Bell says now days, the famous Friday isn't the best money saver. She says most of your doorbuster deals are actually priced higher than what you could get at another date.
She says over the years, she's switched to online shopping and store texts. That alone has saved her five to ten thousand dollars a year.
"Honestly, the best thing I've found that saves me time and money is using a website like slickdeals, to where they have 50,000 users. And it's like asking 50,000 people where can I get the best price for this item. And I'm not looking for anything in particular, their front page that says these are the good prices," said Jen Bell.
She also signs up for promotional texts on her phone and through Facebook.
"I receive text messages from the grocery stores in town and like Starbucks is starting a promotion the first of December. they'll say as long as you show the cashier your phone, they'll give you an item for free, or at a discount," said Jen Bell.
Bell says in order to save the most, shoppers need to do the math.
