EAST PEORIA, ILL. -- A Hannibal native has been killed in an East Peoria accident.
32-year-old Karl Heskett was killed when he was hit from behind by a freight train.
Investigators think he was walking to work listening to an MP3 player, and didn't hear the train.
Authorities also say he was very bundled up because of the cold on Tuesday.
According to theĀ Peoria Journal Star newspaper, railroad workers told investigators they sounded the whistle of the train and rang the bell on the engine in an attempt to get Heskett's attention.
