HANNIBAL, MO. -- UPDATE: January 6 at 3:05 p.m.

Mark Twain Museum joined a coalition of dedicated voters to further pursue votes in the Pepsi Refresh Project.

When you go into the coalition site, your presence is recorded and prompts the others to return votes. The members of the coalition will vary from day to day as weaker voters are replaced with stronger ones.

You can continue voting daily just as you have done. But consider this extra step:

The key is to go in through the coalition URL to start. If already registered with Pepsi, go to http://refr.es/marktwain and you will see the list of coalition members. In your “favorites” section, add this page so you can return easily when needed.

1. ONLINE VOTING

Click the “vote” button by Save Mark Twain. Log in and you will return to the coalition page.

Vote for Save Mark Twain and as many other of the agencies as you please. (Any in the $250,000 grant size are competing with us.)

When complete, log out using the button at the bottom of the page.

This online voting can be done once daily from each e-mail address you have available.

2. FACEBOOK

See the icon on the Pepsi page, or use the URL http://refr.es/marktwain.fb to get going.

3. TEXTING – VERY EASY

Text to Pepsi at 73774 the message 104141. Do not include anything else in your message. You will get a text back saying you voted.

--------------------------

Voting ended for some local organizations in last year's Pepsi Refresh Project, however, one organization qualified to participate once again in the new year.

Mark Twain Home Foundation has announced that they've entered round two of open voting to try and earn the $250,000 Pepsi Refresh Project Grant.

To remind you, their goal is to save Mark Twain's legacy in Hannibal, Mo.

Supporters can vote daily for the grant online at http://www.refresheverything.com/savemarktwain and by texting Pepsi at 73774 with the grant number: 104141.

“Let’s hope that the third time is the charm,” said Cindy Lovell, executive director.  The Museum came in 30th in November, and 11th in December.  “We are partnering with other grant-seekers to support each other, and we think that will help.”

The grant will be used to complete the interior of the Becky Thatcher House, which was the home of Laura Hawkins, childhood sweetheart of Sam Clemens and model for the fictional character, Becky Thatcher.  The Museum purchased the property in 2006 and has completed the exterior restoration.  When it reopens, the home will offer classroom space and interactive exhibits that tell the story of childhood in Hannibal during the mid-1800s, including the story of slave children.  Details about the voting can be found online at
