QUINCY, ILL. -- Automatic car starters are very popular this time of the year.
One local business has customers on a waiting list for installations.Armadillon Audio in Quincy says it's booked for the next three weeks.
Nathan Keller says he's installed car starters non-stop since two weeks before Thanksgiving. He says having a remote start does more for your safety than just protecting you from the weather.
"Not having the remote starter, you're going to have the problem of people stealing your vehicle if you're leaving the keys in the car. If the car's remote started, even if it's unlocked, the steering column's still locked. And if someone hits the brake, it automatically shuts down the vehicle," said Keller.
Remote car starters can run anywhere from one $199 to $350.
Keller says you can also buy add-ons for your car system that allows you to start your car through your phone.
