(AP) -- Travelers at Missouri's two biggest airports have been hit with scattered flight cancellations ahead of blizzard conditions forecast for most of the state.

Southwest Airlines began cancelling flights to and from Lambert-St. Louis International Airport on Monday afternoon.

At Kansas City International Airport, it's not looking good on the departure board as Monday evening showed several cancellations, mostly by Southwest but also a few by other carriers.

Other flights were delayed, but some were taking off on time.

A spokesman for Southwest, Chris Mainz, told The St. Louis Post-Dispatch the airline halted flights at Lambert to avoid having planes stranded there.

Some other airlines also shut down service at St. Louis.

Some airlines have already cancelled flights at Lambert and KCI for Tuesday and Wednesday, when the worst of the storm is expected to hit.
