Lend a hand to help senior citizens and make it safer for students
QUINCY, ILL. -- Some Quincy Public School staff members helped the community get back to normal Friday, February 4th.
Three crews offered their services to help senior citizens shovel their sidewalks and driveways.
Superintendent Lonny Lemon told people to call into the Board of Education if they needed some help getting rid of some snow.
18 people took him up on the offer.
The benefits are two fold.
"We thought this would be a good way to help retired folks and folks that couldn't get out and do their own walks to help create more of a safe situation for them. Plus along the way we're cleaning a lot of the city sidewalk area in front of these residences so pedestrians and namely school students can have a safer place to walk to school," said QJHS Assistant Principal Rick Owsley.
They started around 10:30AMÂ Friday and were finishing up all the homes shortly after noon.
