It's now the middle of February, are you sticking to your New Year's resolution?

Whether you're still hitting the gym or not, there may be some common reasons you're not getting the results you desire from your workout.

KHQA's Jarod Wells has some tips to get the most out of your trip to the gym for this KHQA Safe Family Health Report.

According to CNN.com the biggest reason people stop working out is because they're not seeing results.  Well here's a few reasons why that's happening.

You're not changing what you eat. The bottom line is you need to eat fewer calories or at least have better quality nutrition. Eat foods like an apple or cottage cheese rather processed foods. Stick to a well balance diet, but you don't have to deprive yourself. Pick one meal per week where you can have your guilty pleasure.

You're only doing cardio. Cardio alone will not get you the results you desire, you need to add strength or resistance training. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends muscle-strengthening physical activity two or more days a week for adults. Strength training helps decrease body fat, increase lean muscle mass and more efficiently burn calories.

Your goal is unrealistic. Getting in shape does not mean you have to vigorously work out seven days a week. Take the first step to fitness by working out even two days a week and scale upward from that. Some physical exercise is better than nothing. Set yourself realistic goals and monitor your progress. Take a picture of yourself the first week, continue that each week and track your progress that way.

Finally, have fun! If you're miserable while you work out and you dread going, you're not going to want to go and you need to find another option. Get some friends to go with you. Make it a social outing by participating in fitness classes. Try things like spin classes, kickboxing or a sports league. There are too many options for you to not have fun while working out.
