HANNIBAL, MO. --

Phaedra Marriott-Olsen was 22-years-old when she was hit head on by a drunk driver while traveling home.

She spent four months in a Columbia, Missouri hospital where she struggled to overcome the near-fatal injuries inflicted upon her by another person's decision to drink and drive.

Students at Hannibal High School get to meet Phaedra and hear the story of her struggle at a special pre-prom assembly on Wednesday.

She will tell them how a drunk driver impacted her life, and she'll encourage the students to celebrate prom in a safe and sober manner.

The students will also have the opportunity to register for prom prizes.

The program was coordinated by the High School Resource Officer with the Hannibal Police Department, Nick Grant, and the NE Regional Blueprint Committee.

One prom package will be given to a boy, and one to a girl.

Area merchants donated items that include a gas card from Abel's Oil Company, one corsage and one boutonnière donated by Gibney Sims Flowers, a manicure donated by Q Nails, a gift certificate to Drake's Steak and Ale, a gift certificate to The Brick Oven, and four free value meals donated by McDonald's Restaurant.  Also included in the "Arrive Alive" gift bags are soda, candy and other fun items.

The assembly begins at 1:30 p.m. and the drawing will be held at approximately 2:15 p.m., Wednesday, March 23.
