The Cash For Scrap Metals & Tools buying event is making its way to Quincy for five days.
QUINCY, ILL. -- This is a rare opportunity for you to sell your copper, steel, gold, silver, platinum, tools and so much more, and get paid on the spot. Staff with THR & Associates will be on hand at the Oakley Lindsay Center throughout the week: Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"Everybody has scrap in their yard. It's rusting. You don't think of it as having value, but it has big value, especially copper and stainless steel. We had a guy that brought in a semi that was chopped up. He walked away with a pretty large check," said Gary Denomme, the vice president of THR & Associates.
You must have your driver's license on hand to sell any of your scraps.
"We take a copy of everybody's license. If you don't have a license, we do not buy your product. We report daily to the police, so anything suspicious that comes in, we'll report it. So if somebody brings in a bunch of forms from Poured Walls Basement, that's suspect. We keep a very close eye on theft, " said Denomme.
"Millions of dollars are being put back into communities all around the country," said Tyler Kelly, a spokesperson for the event. "There is a huge demand, and as more and more people get back on their feet, they have a great way to put some extra cash in their pockets."
A woman from Kentucky attended a similar event and brought in some of her late husband's tools, and left with a check for $925. Her tools included and array of garden tools, wrenches, drills, a saw and a toolbox. Dee McClaine from Centerville, Indiana went to an event and left with a check for $4,800. She had brought in an old water heater, some beat up copper, impact wrenches, a generator and some mechanic tools.
Right now, many people are looking to metals. With gold and silver prices breaking records, people all across the country are taking advantage of selling old class rings, broken necklaces, mismatched earrings, silver flatware sets and even dental gold. Gold is trading at over $1,300 an ounce, and silver is over $33 an ounce. Now is a great time to receive an amazing price for your items laying around your house.
This gives people the opportunity to sell their old metals, and the items that some people would consider junk, lying around the basement, attic, garage, etc. "Communities love us , and we are thankful to have Quincy on the schedule," said Kelly. He also said that he expects to spend into the hundreds of thousands of dollars this week at the Oakley Linsay Civic Center.
Keep an open mind when you are going through your stuff. Whether you have old copper lines, appliances, stainless steel, aluminum, tools, farming equipment-they all can bring you a pay day at this once in a lifetime event. This is a free event, and a chance to find out what kind of money you have just lying around your home.
Next week, the Cash For Scrap Metals & Tools will take place in Jacksonville, Illinois.
