HANNIBAL, MO. -- Hannibal Clinic's Health Services wants kids to ride safe this summer.

The group held its tenth annual "Ride Cool" helmet safety event Saturday morning, where about 400 kids were fitted with free bicycle helmets.

These kids wasted no time speeding off on their two and three wheelers around the clinic's parking lot. They had plenty of options to ride along with, including an obstacle course, bicycle safety inspections and a gear wash.

It was a day full of fun for the kids, but with one simple, yet strong message.

"We want to make sure that they're safe, that if they crash, they don't end up here with a crash and burn. We hope it means a lot for these kids to get out here and learn a little about helmet safety. We've got some demos going on teaching them the importance of helmets, and of course, the cool bike guys are here doing cool tricks but demonstrating proper bike safety at the same time," said event organzier Ginny Webb with the Hannibal Clinic.

Saturday's lessons weren't just for the kids, but for their parents as well. Webb says it's important to keep track of your kids' growth to make sure their helmets continue to fit properly.
