QUINCY, ILL. -- Many of you have opened your wallets to help Joplin relief funds.
We heard of a possible scam going on in Quincy.
It involves a man going door to door with his daughter asking for money.
We want to make sure your money goes to a legitimate organization.
We asked the Quincy Police Department what you should know before donating money for this KHQA Safe Family Crime Report.
If it's a big name like the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army, you know the money is going to a good place.
If you're unsure about the person at your door, remember that you can say no.
Officer Paul Hodges says, "You can always ask them if there's a website or number you can reach them at if you decide you want to donate at a later time. If you have an uneasy feeling, you can call the police and we'll look into it a little bit."
Officer Hodges also says if you feel like donating on the spot, it's best to give cash instead of a check or your credit card information.
