New security rumors surface all the time about Facebook and your privacy.  Facebook users are now asking if the numbers in their cell phone contacts are showing up on Facebook ... Is Facebook planning to use them for some reason?

This time around, the concern is over a Facebook smart phone app that allows you to sync your phone contacts with Facebook.

We've seen malicious items on Facebook before where hackers have accessed private accounts.  Click here to read more.

A scary message is popping up for some stating "OMG this is for real everyone!!!!  Warning to ALL ... ALL THE PHONE NUMBERS IN YOUR PHONE are now on Facebook!  No joke - go to the top right of the screen, click on Account, then click on Edit Friends, go left on the screen and click Contacts.  All phone numbers are published!! Please re-post this on your Status, so you r friends can remove their numbers and thus prevent abuse if they do not want them published."

Gawker.com reports that although syncing with your phone automatically puts them in your Contacts list, and technically puts them on Facebook, the numbers are not actually visible to the world and those who have malicious intent.

"The phone numbers listed there were either added by your friends themselves and made visible to you, or you have previously synced your phone contacts with Facebook," Facebook explains in a rumor-debunking post. "Just like on your phone, only you can see these numbers."  (Quote courtesy Gawker.com.)

Facebook has had this feature in place since early 2010 and chances are most of us paid no attention to the fine print when we installed the app.

You can always deactivate the Contacts feature by clicking here.
