Hannibal, Missouri has received its very own artifact from the World Trade Center to commemorate terrorist attacks on New Your City on September 11, 2001.

The Marion County 9-1-1 Center applied for a piece of the disaster three years ago to get this piece of history.  It only recently learned the remnant of the disaster would be coming their way.

911 Executive Director Mike Hall says the plan is to display it in front of the new communication center.

He says he never expected the community response it's received.

Local residents have stopped in and spent time near the remnant, paying their respects and remembering the tragedy.

Hannibal's portion of the fallen World Trade Center is a piece of a metal beam that weighs more than 450 pounds.

You'll remember the city of Quincy similarly applied for and received a piece of steel from the antenna tower that was located on World Trade Center Building #1.  It had held up a TV broadcasting antenna designed and manufactured in Quincy by Harris Corporation.  Click here for that story.

Hannibal's remnant arrived at the Marion County 911 Communications Center on Tuesday.

On September 11, the city will hold a ceremony in honor of 9-11 and dedicated the memorial.

The artifact is at the foot of the flag pole in front of the 911 center.

It's one of more than one thousand artifacts sent to communities in all 50 states.

Those receiving an artifact make it accessible to the public at all times.
