JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- 207 people died on Missouri highways last year because of a drunk driver.

MODOT says a simple phone call to find a sober driver could've saved those lives.

It has taken an idea from the Colorado Department of Transportation and developed an app that shows you an estimated blood alcohol content if you've been drinking.

The app is called Show me my buzz and uses your weight, what you've had to drink, and how long you've been drinking to give you an estimated B-A-C.

MODOT is cleat that this is not exact, and should not be used to determine if you're too drunk to drive.

MODOT says if you've had anything to drink, you should find a driver.

However, it's using this app as a tool to promote safe driving habits, but it also has a cool feature that could be handy.

Sandy Hentges with MODOT says, "Apple used the GPS in your phone to locate where you are and it will automatically find the telephone number of the closest cab company and it will pop up on your screen. All you have to do is tap on the number and it will call a cab for you."

This app is currently only available in the Google Marketplace, and should be available in the Apple App Store any day.

It was just released last Friday, and already has more than 1500 downloads.

From the Associated Press:

Missouri transportation officials have launched a new smartphone application to help people calculate estimated blood-alcohol concentration.

The "Show Me My Buzz" phone application is free for some smart phone users.

It estimates a user's blood-alcohol concentration based on how many drinks have been consumed, how long the person has been drinking and by gender.

The application also will provide a phone number for a local cab company by tapping the screen.

Officials say they hope the application will get people talking about the importance of selecting a designated sober driver who has not consumed any alcohol.

Right now it's available on Android based phones, and is coming soon to iPhone.
