PALMYRA, MISSOURI -- Each month, I take you on the hunt for the best food in Tri-States. Last month, you voted for your faves throughout Monroe City and Palmyra, Missouri.

At one time, it was neck and neck between two of Palmyra's well-known restaurants, but in the last week of voting, Breadeaux Pizza crumbled the competition over at Hats Dugout. I crossed the river to find out why.

Breadeaux Pizza parlor has brought in the dough for the last 21 years.

"Our specialty pizzas are like the Breadeaux Super Special, which has everything on it, from Canadian bacon, pepperoni, hamburger, sausage, olives, mushrooms, garlic and green peppers," said Brenda Leffler.

Whether its made to order or samples of the buffet, co-owners Brenda Leffler and her husband Ruben say there's one dish their customers won't leave without.

"Before they leave, they do have a cheese bread with their meal. That is one of our specials that everyone seems to like in the Tri-States," said Leffler. "We make our own sauce and the dough is made with special ingredients from Breadeaux's franchise."

Special ... as in secret?

"Yes, very much so! Can't reveal it!" laughed Leffler.

If you ask anyone at Breadeaux why they enjoy it so much, they'll all say the same thing.

"I just come in here everyday. I'm like a permanent fixture here. I love Brenda and Ruben. They've been nice people to Palmyra. I enjoy the people that come in, just to sit and talk with them," said Mary Ellen Parsons, a local customer.

"All of our customers know us on a one-on-one basis. It's just a welcoming environment," said Leffler. "Everyone that walks in the door, you know them."

So what are your favorites?

"Bacon and ham pizza, and her Streusel, and I like the supreme," said Parsons.

"How often do you come here? 'Probably every other day,'" laughed Betty Ragar, another loyal customer. "We like pizza and we've tried pizza everywhere and Brenda's pizza is the best."

"Usually on the buffet, if they request something special, I'll go ahead and make it for them. That's one of the best things about the buffet. I try to keep everybody happy," said Leffler.
