Last year 112 property owners filed and won a tax objection complaint that they were improperly taxed by their original townships after their properties were annexed to the City of Quincy. Each owner paid tax to their original township, township road districts and the City of Quincy, but not to Quincy Township. Here is the stipulated agreement and order signed by Judge Thomas A. Ortbal.

Adams County Treasurer Terry Asher announced Wednesday that there is a plan to refund a portion of real estate property taxes paid for the 2010 tax year (taxes payable in 2011) on properties annexed from Melrose and Ellington Townships to the City of Quincy.

The total refund will be approximately $170,374. Click here to read the entire release.

For every $100 in property taxes paid, eligible taxpayers from Melrose Township should receive a refund of approximately $6.00. Eligible taxpayers from Ellington Township will receive approximately $4.20.

The Adams County Treasurer will send refund checks to the mailing address shown on the 2010 tax bill. Click here to find out if you are on the list of properties who will receive a refund.

Property owners must notify the Treasurer’s office if they are using a different address. The Treasurer’s office is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Contact the Adams County Treasurer’s office at 277-2245 for more information.
