A Burlington man is accused of shaking his infant, causing a brain injury.

The Hawk Eye reports 22-year-old Timothy Mitchell is charged with child endangerment in the May incident that sent his then-3-month-old child to an Iowa City hospital.

The investigation stems from a report from the Department of Human Services that says the child suffered "a brain bleed."

Police say Mitchell claimed the baby squirmed out of his arms as he was bouncing the child to calm him or her after being hit in the head with a book by a sibling.

Mitchell faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
