Have you been feeling down this season?

Seasonal Affective Disorder, also known as SAD, causes some people to experience symptoms of depression when the days are short.

Symptoms usually appear during the holiday season when days are at their shortest.

Those suffering begin to feel better when the days are longer again. But the holidays can be a difficult time for those with Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Lanny Stiles, a Psychiatrist with Blessing Hospital, told us, "They're hoping they can function, they want to do best. They just don't feel like it. They just are more withdrawn, more irritated, lack of response, so that it's harder to get through the holiday season.  And that then makes them more depressed."

Seasonal Depression can be treated with sunlight or sunlamps.

In severe cases medication can be taken for the months that depression occur.
