QUINCY, ILL. -- Retail stores report more thefts in December than any other time of year. It's the same story in the Tri-States. This year, Quincy police aren't necessarily responding to more calls, but thefts of greater value.
Just this weekend, two separate cases at the Quincy Walmart landed two people in jail who attempted to steal thousands of dollars in merchandise.
Police arrested 24-year-old Amanda Myers Saturday afternoon for theft totaling more than $2,300. Myers reportedly began stuffing numerous high dollar electronic items into a bag. She then walked out to her car with the stolen items and put them inside the vehicle. The items were soon recovered and returned to Walmart.
Hours later, police arrested 17-year-old Ronnie McKenzie, Jr. McKenzie had loaded up a shopping cart full of about $1,100 worth of high dollar electronics and pushed the shopping cart out of the store without making any attempt to pay for the items.
Both subjects were taken into custody at the Adams County Jail.
