QUINCY, ILL. -- Vatterott College has teamed up with the United Way in Quincy to keep area families warm this winter.
Students get hands-on training in the heating and air conditioning program. Throughout the next month or two, some of them will provide their expertise for free.
"People who perhaps have no income or are out of a job, and they'd like to have their furnace checked over, or maybe they actually have a problem with it. We've had a few this fall that have had no heat and we've gone out on those calls and checked out the furnaces and in some cases, we've been able to fix it without spending any money," said Terry Davis, an HVAC instructor at Vatterott.
Vatterott's students won't be on their own just yet. Davis will stay at their side during these house calls.
