MENDON, ILL. -- A local organization helped make this holiday season a bit more special for a local teenager.
17-year-old Dominic Thurman of Rushville was seriously injured in a car accident last summer.
Now he is confined to this wheelchair.
Since that tragic accident, he hasn't been able to get out in the woods and fields to hunt, that is until Monday.
The local Golden Triangle Chapter of Quail Forever sponsored a special pheasant hunt for him near Mendon.
Volunteers helped transport him around the fields with the help of a gator and human power.
Thurman says he would never return to the past time he loves without this special help.
It's also a return to normalcy for him ... a way to forget about his injuries for just a little while.
Ryan Viehmeyer, Local Quail Forever Chapter President said, "This is a christmas present for me. I love watching the kids get into nature. It's really exciting."
Quail Forever raised the funds to put on the hunt at the Rock Solid Hunting Preserve near Mendon.
The organization recently took four wounded local soldiers on a special pheasant hunt to fit their needs.
