HANNIBAL, MO. -- A diesel fuel spill created traffic headaches about 2 p.m. Monday on a busy stretch of road near Hannibal Middle School.

The spill stretched from the Highway 61 exit of Interstate 72 to the middle school near the Huck Finn Shopping Center.

The right lane of Highway 61 is now open after being closed to traffic causing some delays as crews spread sand to absorb the spilled fuel.

An investigation didn't reveal the cause of the spill.

The Hannibal Fire Department, Hannibal Police Department, the city street department and Missouri Department of Transportation all assisted in the cleanup and traffic control.
