HANNIBAL, MO. -- A group in the Show Me State that wants to legalize marijuana brought their mission to Hannibal Monday evening.

Volunteers with the Show-Me Cannabis Regulation hosted sessions at the Hannibal Public Library to train other volunteers to get signatures for a petition.

According to the organization's web site, if supporters get 150,000 signatures by April 6, the issue will make it on the ballot in November.

The group believes marijuana should be legalized so Missouri can regulate and tax its sale.

The two informational meetings Monday brought in about eight people.

Aaron Malin, a Truman State University student and Volunteer Field Coordinator for Show-Me Cannabis, says that the Regulation is not promoting drug use.

"The first thing we have to stress is that this is not a campaign that promotes marijuana use, or cannabis use, in any way shape or form. We see this as a policy change that is smart for all Missourians, but in no way is this a promotion or endorsement of the use of cannabis or marijuana."
