QUINCY, ILL. -- Temperatures in the 70's.
Plenty of sunshine.
A golf course that's already green.
What more could you ask for as it's the first official day of spring?
In a year that included a very mild winter, Westview Golf Course in Quincy has already seen over 3,400 rounds of golf played since January 1, 2012.
"We've had a great start, we definitely need some rain," Westview Golf Professional Matt Burry said. "It's kind of dry out there right now. We had a wet year last year and then we threw in that big wind storm in June, so we lost about three days to that and then the heat last summer. So those things all together just killed our year last year. So we definitely need a good year and this has just been a perfect start so far."
In January and February 2011, there were only 60 rounds of golf played at the course. This year, the course had already seen 1,520 played.
That's something that Judy Wilper and friends like to hear.
"The weather has been wonderful, the golf has been questionable, no it's been really nice really nice to be out this time of year," Wilper said.
Burry said despite the nice weather, the course is green but still dry from a lack of snow over the winter. The grass could use some rain, but that they're ready for the season to begin.
