BUSHNELL, ILL. -- The city of Bushnell is hoping to clean up year-old debris left behind after an arson fire.
The Brickhouse Restaurant on Main Street burned in March of 2011.
Now the city is concerned the wreckage left behind is a safety hazard, not only an eyesore.
Mayor Steve Russell told KHQA that legal issues surrounding the ownership of the building are overshadowing that city officials believe is becoming a public safety hazard.
“Now we're trying to work through lawyers to try to figure out what's going on,” he said. “We're not having a lot of luck or success. Everything we've tried has not work. It's becoming a real safety hazard and a health issue.”
A grand jury indicted two other building owners with arson charges.
Officials have contacted the out-of-town owners of the building, but their lawyers have not responded to the city's request, Russell said.
