Missouri Attorney General investigates price gouging claims

MISSOURI (AP) -- Are drought stricken farmers in Missouri becoming the victims of price gouging?

That's the question that Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster is investigating.

On Friday the Attorney General's office released a report that says some well drillers, primarily in northwest Missouri, may be overcharging farmers for their services.

A state of emergency was declared earlier this week by Governor Jay Nixon.

With that declaration, comes $7 million dollars in state money to help with the cost of emergency well drilling or deepening of current wells.

Missouri law also makes it a crime to price gouge during a state of emergency.
